Exterior

The exterior of the home featured on Fixer Upper: Colorado Mountain House.
what we updated:
  • Painted the exterior Trailhead to settle the home into its surroundings
  • Kept the original wall lantern for added character
  • Installed copper landscape lights along the pathway
  • Added a custom front door and repurposed existing hardware 
  • Added custom wooden shutters to side the windows
  • Cleaned up the landscape (with the help of local experts!) and added new plants in original planters

Entry: Before + After

what we updated:

  • Cleaned up the original wooden floors in the entryway
  • Painted windows Conservatory and added trim
  • Added offset paneling on the walls (10” wide) and antique oak to ceilings to make the space feel warm and inviting 
  • Swapped out can lights for recessed black ones 
  • Installed black sconces on either side of the bench
  • Mounted wooden pegs on the walls for hanging coats, bags, and winter gear

Sitting Room: Before + After

what we updated:

  • Kept the original brick flooring and red-stone fireplace
  • Painted windows Conservatory and added trim
  • Added antique-oak paneling to the ceiling and framed the doorways to create cased openings
  • Left the existing ceiling beams, but commissioned an artist to hand-paint them, matching tone and texture to the new oak paneling
  • Added a warm grey plaster to the walls, inspired by Quaint Cottage Paint (from Magnolia Home by Joanna Gaines crafted with KILZ)
  • Installed brass flush mounts to the ceiling

Living Room: Before + After

what we updated:

  • Refinished the original wooden floors
  • Painted windows Conservatory and added trim
  • Wrapped the room in antique-oak paneling
  • Removed the painted trim material wrapped around the two large existing ceiling beams and re-wrapped them in reclaimed material to match the solid hand-hewn beams in the kitchen 
  • Added smaller 9x9 beams made out of antique white oak throughout
  • Installed a forged iron chandelier

Kitchen: Before + After

Having the living room and kitchen connected was an important reconfiguration so that this space can serve as a main gathering point when people are visiting.

what we updated:

  • Refinished the original wooden floors
  • Painted the windows Conservatory and added trim
  • Added antique-oak paneling to the ceiling and walls
  • Removed painted wrap around the existing large ceiling beams and re-wrapped them in antique material to match hand-hewn beams
  • Installed a chandelier to center the space (same as the living room) and wall sconces flanking the range hood 
  • Added custom cabinetry with iron hardware on both sides of the kitchen 
  • Installed panel-ready appliances, a double oven, range, and custom range hood
  • Installed a backsplash with green zellige tile
  • Added a copper sink and new brass fixtures
  • Added honed black soapstone countertops
  • Centered the space with a vintage table and chairs to fit the whole family

Reading Room: Before + After

We reimagined the former galley-style kitchen into a cozy library for reading and games.

what we updated:

  • Installed antique parquet flooring
  • Added new baseboards and paint-grade tongue-and-groove paneling (vertical and horizontal) on the walls for visual interest
  • Painted wall paneling and ceilings Ridge Rock for cohesion
  • Installed an antique pendant light, plus a new pleated sconce
  • Removed all cabinetry and appliances
  • Added built-in shelves to each side of the stove and an oak bookcase in the former oven nook 
  • Replaced kitchen cabinetry with a little sitting area, including a custom table and a bench seat upholstered in whimsical fabric
  • Installed a wood-burning stove where the range originally was

Powder Bath

The powder bathroom featured on Fixer Upper: Colorado Mountain House.

We reframed part of the former kitchen to make space for a main-level half bath.

what we updated:

  • Kept existing brick flooring
  • Applied a custom burgundy plaster to the upper half of the wall, inspired by Mountain Currant Paint (from Magnolia Home by Joanna Gaines crafted with KILZ)
  • Installed handmade floral and scalloped tiles 
  • Installed a new pendant light
  • Added all-new plumbing fixtures, including an antique marble corner sink, a brass faucet, and a wire towel hook

Primary Bedroom: Before + After

what we updated:

  • Refinished the original wooden floors
  • Defined the entry into the primary bathroom with a cased opening made of hand-hewn beams 
  • Kept the original windows (just painted them!) and balcony off the suite
  • Installed more light-oak paneling on the ceiling, plus trim around the doors and windows
  • Added scalloped wainscotting with curved detailing to the bottom two-thirds of the wall and moody wallpaper to the upper third 
  • Painted existing ceiling beams to match the new hand-hewn beams
  • Replaced the doors with new white-oak doors to match the originals
  • Installed a chandelier to center the space

Primary Bathroom: Before + After

We expanded the primary bedroom into the existing powder bathroom and kitchen to make space for an en suite bathroom.

what we updated:

  • Added wooden flooring to match the bedroom
  • Added a light-grey plaster to the walls, inspired by Quaint Cottage Paint (from Magnolia Home by Joanna Gaines crafted with KILZ)
  • Painted the windows Conservatory and added Roman shades
  • Added a wall of built-in closet space, plus a water closet with all-new plumbing fixtures
  • Installed two brass scones 
  • Installed a freestanding concrete tub from with antique-inspired faucets
  • Added a shower with an arched opening and a zellige tile surround 
  • Installed a double vanity with black soapstone countertops, two undermount sinks, and a large mirror
