Big Cottage Exterior: Before + After
This one-bed, one-bath cottage was already in good condition, so we focused primarily on cosmetic updates to bring in more of a lodge-inspired, retreat-like feel.
what we updated:
- Repainted all siding and trim in Trailhead to match the main house
- Installed hand-hewn wood beams on the porch
- Replaced wooden shutters
- Kept existing light fixtures and roofing

Big Cottage Living Area: Before + After
what we updated:
- Cleaned up and kept existing wood flooring
- Painted ceiling, trim, and existing beams with Mosswood Interior Paint
- Added warm gray plaster to the walls
- Swapped the ceiling fan for a chandelier
- Installed stone fireplace and two new windows to anchor the space
- Added an upholstered bench seat to highlight the existing bay window

Little Cottage Exterior: Before + After
Before heading off to college, Chip and Jo’s daughter, Ella, took on her first design project. Together with Jo, she brought this small guest cottage to life, transforming it with moody color, cozy patterns, and lots of bold tile.
