Looking Back at the Grand Opening Silobration

by Magnolia
Published on August 31, 2016

Last year, the Silobration was our Magnolia Silos grand opening event. Leading up to that first opening day, I couldn’t wait to throw the front doors open and welcome everyone in. And when we finally did, it lived up to every hope and dream I’d spent so many late nights thinking up for this place.

Just the sheer number of people who traveled to be there with us was unbelievable. I’m sure any of you who came to visit remembers the unexpected rain that came down that weekend. So many hours of preparation had gone into the Silobration, that I think our staff pushed through and were more than ready to get the event underway—rain or shine! It was even more special that so many of you were willing to throw on rain boots and a poncho to celebrate with us.

Maybe the highlight of the whole event was when the rain cleared, both nights, in time for Johnnyswim to play. We started out as big fans of Johnnyswim a few years ago, and as a surprise for Chip, they agreed to come play at his birthday party. Since then, the lead singers, Abner and Amanda Ramirez, have become good friends to us. So when we were choosing a band for the Silobration concert, it was a given that they were our first choice. And, of course, they knocked it out of the park.

After the whole weekend was over, we couldn’t believe how much fun we’d had with it. So much, in fact, that just a few months back Chip started talking about it all over again. He started sneaking it into conversation, saying things like, “JoJo, wasn’t that a blast?” and “Jo, should we do it again?!!”

At first, I thought he was off his rocker. The Silobration was a blast, but it took a lot of people a lot of hours to pull that first one off. But the longer I thought about it, the more excited I was about the idea. Inviting Johnnyswim back, meeting people from all over the country, and sharing the Silos grounds with so many who have never experienced it before are really the three things that convinced me we should go for it again!

This time the bakery is open, Seed and Supply is finished, the permanent stage is installed, the entrance is complete and the barn is up and running! There is so much to see that wasn’t finished at the grand opening—which makes this Silobration just as special as last year.
