Paint Purchase Gone Wrong
"In search of the perfect green for cabinets, I purchased a sample of 1905 Green and absolutely loved it. It also came out looking identical to the paper sample on display at Ace Hardware, which often times doesn't happen with other paint lines! Having found the perfect color, I went online and purchased a cabinet paint gallon of this color. I tested it out before giving it to the cabinet painter and it's a good thing I did. The color was MUCH darker than the sample and actually looked navy blue. I immediately contacted Magnolia to report the issue. They had me upload photos of the sample paint and cabinet paint to an email. I received a reply that they had initiated for a replacement gallon to be sent. A week later, the replacement gallon came and when I tested the color, it was once again, much darker than the sample paint and looked just as dark (and navy blue) as the first gallon. I took the painted piece of wood which had the original sample paint as well as the gallons that were sent to me painted on it, into the local Ace Hardware store and to my local Benjamin Moore store to show them and see what they thought. Everyone, including my cabinet painter, said it appears to be an over-tinting issue and therefore, the problem seems to be with the vendor who is mixing your paint (Kilz perhaps?). I am still awaiting a reply from Magnolia to find out if they will be issuing me a refund for the gallon I paid for but cannot use due to it being so dark that it appears black in the bathroom where the cabinets to be painted green are. Given that this is affecting my painter's schedule, as well as my own, I am no longer interested in receiving another replacement. I would just like my money back."
