Life Lately February 25, 2016 Hello there! I always love when I get the chance to connect and write personal updates on the blog. We finally got to break away from work and filming and take the kids on vacation! This time off has been such a blessing and a time to regroup and get fresh vision for our family and all the fun projects we are working on. Our Texas farm family of six is trying to figure out how to hit the slopes and vacation Colorado style. This place is amazing. We are trying our hand at skiing… all six of us. Chip is a pro but I have only ski’d once- and by “ski” I mean scooting down the mountain on my backside because the run was too steep. The kids are all going to get their first experience skiing this week and I have a feeling they are going to love it. I am going to try my hand at skiing again (actually Chip is making me) and face my fears of losing control… you can say a prayer for me! Today I sat and watched the kids play in the snow and stared at all the beautiful trees and breathtaking views. Simple reminders to stop, slow down, and get fresh perspective. Lately, Chip and I have been working on a few different projects, which are what keep us on our toes and really make this whole thing feel like an adventure. We’ve been working on our book over the past couple of months—The Magnolia Story, and we finally finished writing it last week! We had such a fun time writing about the past and reliving all the crazy stories, struggles, and dreams we have had on this journey. I am so amazed at what a great writer and story teller Chip is, I never knew he would be so into writing a book because he always jokes he has a hard time with reading. I am so proud of him for leading this project and helping me articulate my thoughts and put them on paper. The book is out in October and we can’t wait to share our story with you. I have finalized my paint line that will be out this Spring. This has been so fun for me because paint is one of the biggest tools I use when transforming our renovations. Advice on paint colors is also one of the most asked questions for us on social media and I know this can be crippling for many people because of the time, cost, and stress that choosing a color can cause. There are a total of 150 colors in the line and I hand picked 30 of my favorites from the line for my signature palette- this will make it easier for those of you who don’t want too many options and want to simplify the process. The colors will be available on my website and in stores soon. Another tool I use when decorating my client’s home is texture. The best way to add texture and color is with rugs and pillows. I am in the final stages of designing the Spring line for my Magnolia Home Rug collection. The rugs and pillows will be out available at market for retailers this April and in stores this summer. I am thrilled with the way the line is coming together- if you like texture and tassels you’re going to like what you see! The bakery- Silo Baking Co, is set to open mid-May and my favorite thing to do is eat the yummy treats we will be serving. I am still finalizing a few of the last recipes for the bakery but this is such a sweet addition to the Silos! Last but definitely not least is my Magnolia Home spring line of furniture that will be at market this April as well. The October 2015 launch is arriving in stores in your area this next month so be on the lookout for it! Furniture is what helps tell your home’s story and I wanted to make sure every piece was unique, with great attention to detail. Every day has been something new, challenging, and fun. And to be honest, none of it feels like work because my favorite thing to do is design homes and spaces. I wanted to be super selective with what we take on and the projects I am currently working on are simply tools that will help make my job easier and hopefully inspire you in your own space. We started shooting for season four a couple of weeks ago. While Chip has been working hard on the construction side of things, I’ve been focusing on designs for the upcoming Fixer Upper projects. It seems like our clients get more and more daring each season—so I know season four is going to be a good one! Oh, and in case you’re wondering what hour six of filming looks like… My visual team and I spent some time turning the Market into a spring wonderland a couple of weeks ago. After a long, cold winter, the colors and flowers are a much-welcomed change. We added a little faux “tulip bar” and a “flower market” to the floor. Hopefully you can come visit and be just as inspired for spring as I am. We are also working on a stage at the Silos for live music and adding a few more fun additions for you and your family when you come visit! We are still blown away at what this dream of Magnolia has turned into and when we see friends and families playing around at the Silos and enjoying their time together it makes us so happy and humbled to watch it all play out. Thanks for following along with us! We are grateful for your support, prayer and encouragements. We hope this Spring season is in full bloom for you and your family. May there be beauty and laughter in your homes!
