Happy 6 Months of Silos! April 12, 2016 It’s officially been six months since our Magnolia Market at the Silos soft opening! We still can’t believe so many of you have traveled to visit us in Waco in the last half a year. In our wildest dreams we couldn’t have predicted that so many of you would come all the way to Waco to see our new store. Toward the end of 2014 we knew we’d outgrown our “Little Shop on Bosque” and we began the hunt for a place we’d be able to grow into. One day it hit me how perfect the Waco Silos property would be. We knew this place was going to need a lot of love, and over the next few months we poured hours of work into the property, and when it started shaping up, we knew it would be better than we’d dreamed. We quietly closed the Bosque shop on a cool October morning by hanging a sign that said “We’ve Moved!” We didn’t announce it at all, and decided to surprise our guests by directing them over to the Silos location. Chip and I showed up over at the Silos to welcome the very first guests through the door. It was so good to see that everyone was as excited as we were. Then came the Silobration on October 30-31st. Chip and I couldn’t believe how far people traveled to celebrate the grand opening with us. We’re happy to say that we’ve been working hard to add some exciting new things to the silos grounds over the past 6 months to make your visit even better. The food trucks are still whipping up some of the best local eats in the city. We’ve recently added new picnic tables and a stage underneath the silos as added seating while you eat and relax. For the past few months some of the baby goats from the farm have been making appearances at the Silos on weekends, and the kids loved it so much that we’ve built a little part-time habitat for the goats to live in while they’re visiting the Silos. Goats are such social animals that they have loved being here on the Silos grounds and visiting with our customers. The garden has a few new things, too. We loved how many kiddos were playing and getting their hands dirty in the garden, so we decided to add an antique sink. This makes washing their little hands before grabbing a bite to eat from the food trucks easy. We’re also adding a garden shop, Magnolia Seed and Supply. This little shop is opening next Monday, April 18th, and will sell fairy garden supplies and other fun gardening accessories and tools. On the weekends you can find our lawn filled with families playing lawn games, so we’ve added a swing set, giant jenga, cornhole, hula hoops, jump ropes and more to the mix. If you find yourself waiting in line at Cheddarbox for the world’s best grilled cheese, or at the Common Grounds Container waiting on your iced coffee, the kids will have plenty to keep them busy on the lawn. The Silo Baking Co is also seeing a lot of progress! The sweet smell of freshly baked cupcakes and pastries will be filling this space before we know it. As we begin to prepare for our first Texas summer at the Silos, I want to remind you that it gets warm here early in the year. We suggest wearing sunscreen and drinking plenty of water before and during your visit. There are a few places on the grounds where you can take cover from the sun, but staying hydrated will keep you comfortable and safe as temperatures are on the rise. For those of you planning a visit to the Silos this summer, we hope you enjoy! More is coming and the bakery will open in just a couple months, so stay tuned for even more!
