Crew’s Book-Themed Baby Shower July 27, 2018 When Chip and I found out we were expecting a new baby, we really didn’t know how the kids were going to react. They’re all so close in age, and Emmie Kay has always been the baby, so we weren’t sure if they’d be excited about such a big change. We lined up the four of them and handed them each a baby onesie that said “big sister” or “big brother” across the front. Ella, the quietest of the bunch, literally jumped up and down with excitement. The way they responded to the news of their new sibling was the sweetest thing. Our big kids celebrated and anticipated baby Crew’s arrival in the very best way and I loved every minute of it. Sometime early on in my pregnancy, I remember the kids talking about how excited they were to read all of their favorite books to Crew once he was born. That spurred the idea to create a small library wall of sorts in his nursery. When I told my friends about it, they decided to host a book-themed shower. I love that Crew’s little library is now stocked with books from so many people who love him. I can hardly believe Crew has already been home with us for over a month now, but I still wanted to share a few photos from this memorable day of celebrating our boy. Plus, I thought there were so many sweet details that may spur on some ideas if you’re looking to host a shower for a friend or family member. Purchase custom stamp here and bookplate here. My friends thought through every detail and made this shower so special. The invitations were designed to look like library cards, which was a nod to the theme, and a fun preview of the party. They included a bookplate, stamped to be personalized for Crew’s library, inside every envelope for guests to fill out and stick inside the book they brought to the shower. I love that I can use this stamp for years to come as we add to his collection. I was so surprised by all of the details when I arrived to the party. My friends enlisted the help of the visual display team at Magnolia to create a stack of oversized books (maybe don’t try that at home, ha!) and a few balloon displays throughout the space. I love the way the blues and greens stood out in this all-white room. To give the table top a library feel, the place settings were layered with different types of paper and topped with a party favor for the guests—a notebook, a pencil with a capsule at the end that contains seeds to grow flowers, and a bookmark. There was also a card at each seat for the guests to write a note to Crew. Everyone filed their note away in this antique card catalog that now serves as decor that tells a story in Crew’s nursery. I hope one day, when he’s older, he’ll read through all of these sweet notes and feel all the love that surrounded him that day. It’s these types of thoughtful, personal elements that are always my favorite part of any party. Let’s not forget about the food – because we all know that’s the most important part. I loved the ‘build your own charcuterie board’ concept. This idea really helped keep the party relaxed and casual – not to mention it looked beautiful. I definitely went back for seconds (okay, maybe thirds). I loved this day. It was so sweet to celebrate Crew, surrounded by our friends and family! P.S. – I’ll be sharing a look at Crew’s nursery in the fall issue of the Magnolia Journal, which you can find on newsstands mid-August or subscribe at magnolia.com/journal.
