    How to Style a Garland on a Mantel

From there, layer in candles, candleholders, and small decorative objects on top of or in front of the garland to give the mantel depth and varying heights. For a Christmas mantel, stockings hung at each end anchor the arrangement and give the garland a natural frame.

    How Long Should a Mantel Garland Be?
    A good rule of thumb is to measure the width of your mantel and add 12 to 24 inches on each side to allow for draping. For a standard 5-foot mantel, a 6 to 7-foot garland works well. For a longer or grander mantel, two garlands joined at the center give a fuller, more dramatic look without gaps.
