Retro Plant Stands & Planters
Ferny's is a retro-inspired plant shop curated by Mikey, Joanna Gaines's younger sister, and this collection brings her picks directly to your home. The pieces here lean into color, vintage character, and a sense of personality that most plant accessories don't have. Retro plant stands in metal and wood, planters and pots in distressed finishes and playful tones, and accessories chosen to make your plants feel as considered as the rest of your space. Everything is handpicked by Mikey, whose eye for vintage finds and mid-century design shapes the aesthetic of the whole collection.
What is a retro plant stand?
A retro plant stand is a stand designed to elevate and display plants with a vintage or mid-century inspired look typically featuring metal construction in matte or aged finishes, tapered legs, and colors or silhouettes drawn from 1950s and 60s design. They work well as a single display piece for a larger plant or grouped together in a corner for a collected, layered look. Most are suited for both indoor and outdoor use, depending on the finish.
What size planter do I need?
The right planter size depends on the plant. As a general rule, choose a planter that's 1 to 2 inches larger in diameter than the plant's current pot enough room for the roots to grow without so much excess soil that it retains too much moisture. For a statement floor plant, a larger planter in the 10 to 14 inch range works well. For a shelf or tabletop, a 4 to 6 inch pot is typically the right scale. If you're using a planter without drainage, leave an inch or two of gravel at the bottom to prevent root rot.
