Fall Sangria

Ingredients 

  • 1 750-ml bottle dry red wine, such as Pinot Noir or Zinfandel
  • 1 cup apple or pomegranate juice 
  • ½ cup brandy 
  • 1 red apple, cored and thinly sliced 
  • 1 red pear, cored and thinly sliced 
  • 1 cup fresh cranberries 
  • 2 whole star anise 
  • 1 12-ounce can ginger ale, chilled 
  • 8 small dried orange slices for garnish

Directions

Stir together wine, apple juice, and brandy in a large pitcher. Add apple slices, pear slices, cranberries, and star anise. Cover and chill 2 to 24 hours. When ready to serve, stir in ginger ale. Add a dried orange slice to each serving.
