A Texas spring means one thing: flowers in plenty! Season after season, the garden remains one of Jo’s favorite places and ours, too. In light of this love, the Silos grounds serve as a backdrop for botanical beauty of many kinds—teeming with flourishing beds, boxes, planters, and climbing vines.
This spring, we’re going beyond the garden with hands-on experiences to cultivate creativity and encourage honing your own green thumb. The best part? Everything is inspired by Jo’s garden and the flower varieties she grows at home.
From our gardens to yours, here’s a breakdown of all things floral at Magnolia this spring. Let’s dig in!
The Seed Bar
New to the Silos, our seed bar is located downstairs in Magnolia Market (also known as the “grain barn"). This interactive experience invites guests to create a custom flower seed mix. The assortment includes flower varieties—like lakspur, gomphrena, orlaya, and scabisoa—all known to thrive this time of year. Fun fact: All of these seeds are either planted in Jo's garden at the farm or somewhere on the Silos grounds.
Herbarium
We recently transformed our former garden shed, Seed + Supply, into a workshop space that nods to Jo’s rose cottage. Inspired by her love for preserving blooms from the garden, this experience guides guests through the basics of pressing flowers to craft their own herbarium art. A guided tour of the Silos Garden, plus insight on what’s growing at the grounds, is also included.
The Flower Shoppe
One of our Shops at the Silos recently got a makeover. Introducing: The Flower Shoppe! This charming space is inspired by a vintage boutique you might find while wandering the streets of France and is filled with our robust assortment of faux florals. Many of the varieties (like ranunculus) are reminiscent of the ones Jo grows at home and are made of real-touch materials, giving them a fresh feel for styling in your own space.
Intended for creativity, this shop welcomes guests to wander and create a unique lasting arrangement. Because every day deserves a bouquet! Get a peek inside over on @visitmagnoliaOpens in new tab.
Q & A with Our Garden Team
Our Garden Team tends to our gardens at the Silos—and beyond. (They also cover the Gristmill, Castle, our HQ building, and more Magnolia-owned properties around town!) We tapped one of the lead designers to answer a few questions:
When did you start planning and planting for spring?
We begin planning for our spring garden about a year out and order bulbs in early spring for the following spring. They arrive the first week of January, and we get started planting them right away! (Preferably after one or two freezes.)
Is there any inspiration behind 2025's planting? Anything from Jo's gardens at home?
Each season, we look to add more floral beauty that will inspire guests and get them excited about gardening. We try to grow varieties at the Silos that are also growing in Jo's garden. For example, our anemones and ranunculus have also been grown at the Gaines farm recently. Jo really liked the apricot/peach foxglove last season, so we will have those in the garden again. We’re also trying to incorporate more florals that press well for the herbarium workshop!
What flower varieties will be at the Silos this spring?
Around the property (including the Gristmill and Castle): tulips and daffodils. The team planted over 14,000 tulips and 6,400 daffodils this season!
In the raised beds: ranunculus, snapdragons, and poppies.
In the planters: anemones, foxgloves, delphiniums, scabiosa, poppies, hellebores, and stock.
