I had a version of this citrus guacamole at a restaurant that is no longer open, and it was so delicious that I created my own version. The pop of citrus in your mouth is unexpected and pairs beautifully with the rich butteriness of avocados. The flavors keep building as you eat it. You can use oranges, grapefruits, or whatever your favorite citrus fruit is! I’m sure you’ll love this recipe so much it will become your go-to guac recipe.
Ingredients
  • 4 to 5 ripe avocados, skin removed and diced
  • 4 garlic cloves, grated or minced
  • 2 jalapeños, deveined and minced
  • 2 limes, 1 zested and both juiced
  • 1/2 red onion, minced
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon fine ground garlic powder (optional)
  • 3 to 4 dashes of hot sauce
  • 2 navel oranges, cut into supremes and the supremes halved
  • 1 bunch cilantro leaves, chopped
    Directions
    1. In a large bowl, combine the avocados, garlic cloves, jalapeños, lime zest and juice, and red onion. Season with the salt, pepper, garlic powder (if using), and hot sauce and smash together, leaving some of the avocado in larger chunks for texture.
    2. Fold in two-thirds of the orange segments and the cilantro, reserving one-third of the oranges and a few cilantro leaves for garnish.
    3. Taste the guacamole and season with more salt and pepper. Transfer to your serving dish, strategically place the reserved orange pieces across the top, and garnish with the reserved cilantro leaves.
