Magnolia Table with Joanna Gaines: Season 2, Episode 6

Lunch with Mikey

When we opened our restaurant, Magnolia Table, we wanted to honor the building’s legacy. It formerly housed the Elite Cafe, a community staple that opened in 1919 and had deep ties to Waco's history. Rumor has it that the Elite even hosted Elvis Presley on a couple of occasions.

When we bought the building, Chip went back and looked through all of Elite Cafe’s old menus. One thing stuck out to him: a pimiento cheese sandwich. We decided then and there to have it on our restaurant’s menu so people who visit us can get a taste of the history. We call it our 1919 Pimiento Cheese, and it’s first up on the menu in today’s episode.

I’m also making Tomato Basil Soup and two types of brick-pressed Paninis (brick optional). For dessert, I’m recreating a favorite from my childhood: Oatmeal Cream Pies. These have now become my kids favorite, and I hope you love them too!

Whether it’s a nod to a historical landmark or a fun memory from your very own childhood, food has a way of taking us to another place in time. And more importantly, it reminds us to savor the memories right in front of us.

Let’s get cooking!
