"The Overgrown Ranch” sat on a beautiful piece of land, which was what originally drew our clients to the property. The house itself needed a major makeover in order to complement the landscape and become a space for the family to enjoy. The Kings purchased this home in hopes of accommodating their family and also wanted land in the country, a little further away from the city. One downside to the home was the number of bedrooms, but they still chose to select it in hopes we could transform the space to fit their needs.

Outside, both the landscaping and the exterior needed to be retouched. We added new siding, lighting, porch posts, a new front door and a new roof. Our client wanted a nice neutral for the exterior, so I had it painted, making it appear more inviting and warm.

Inside the home lacked an open space concept, but I created a whole new layout for the home. This allowed for a significant size foyer leading into an open living room. By removing a wall, I made the space appear more open and airy. In addition to creating an open floor plan, I also hoped to add character and charm to this rustic ranch style home. I was able to salvage some of the original shiplap in the home as a decorative accent and added new shiplap to several of the main walls. We also installed new lighting, trim, and nail down Pine hardwood flooring in the living room.

The living room now opened up into the kitchen, which was originally where the dining room was located. The new kitchen placement allowed for three large windows, creating a view of the beautiful landscape outside that our client was hoping for. The Kings also requested a brick backsplash, so I found Chicago antique brick pavers from Design SuperstoreOpens in new tab to make a statement in the kitchen. New honed black granite countertops were added along with a new farm sink, fixtures, lighting, cabinets and floating cedar shelves. Clint Harp crafted an island that I designed for the Kings using some shiplap found on one of the original walls.

Off the kitchen, I created a space for a nice size butler's pantry and desk for the King family.

In place of the original dark and dated kitchen, we designed a new dining room with two new sets of french doors. We also incorporated nice built ins for extra storage and character. To update this new room, I added fresh paint and new light fixtures that were made to look old. My goal was to make space for the family to enjoy meals together and with friends.

To complete this renovation project, we designed a master suite addition. The key to the design in the master bedroom and bath was making it blend with the rest of the house. I wanted it to seem as if this addition was always there. I incorporated an antiqued fixture to go over the bed and used the same pine floors in the bedroom as I did in the rest of the house. Clint Harp made the reclaimed wood headboard and I designed sliding barn doors that led into the bathroom.

In the bathroom, an old clawfoot tub was restored and fit perfectly in the spot next to the custom vanity that was painted "Alabaster White." The bathroom was a perfect size for the Kings and tied in nicely to the rest of the house.

In the end, "The Overgrown Ranch” became a beautifully renovated home for our client’s family to settle into. The new layout, along with the fresh updates inside, created a nice open floor plan and also gave this home a new story. After undergoing a complete renovation, this house became almost unrecognizable on both the exterior and interior, and now matched the stunning country landscape.
