Homemade Comfort Food
I’m a firm believer that any time is a good time for comfort food. This rings especially true during busy seasons. There’s just something about a creamy sauce and a rich dessert that makes you feel a little warmer inside. In the early years of filming Fixer Upper, our lives were suddenly busier than they’d ever been, and our dear friend Gail would offer to make our family a meal. Her crispy breaded chickens and creamy fettuccine was our absolute favorite. Even now, years later, whenever I make this dish there always seems to be a familiar comfort baked into every bite, which has made it one of my family’s all-time favorite meals.
In this episode, I’m pairing Mrs. Gail’s recipe with a Layered Arugula Salad topped with one of my favorite garnishes—buttered walnuts (because everything is better with a little butter)—and Tiramisu for dessert.

Jo's Kitchen Essentials: Bakeware
The basic tools we use everyday don’t always get the credit they deserve. But I think it’s these essentials that are the real workhorses of the kitchen, and our most trusted guides when it comes to cooking. They make the meals we love to serve possible. — Jo
