Winter at Magnolia Market: 2019

A note from Jo on this season’s install:

Each season, the transformation of the market feels like a purposeful shift for all of us at Magnolia. A new season is ushered in, not only with new products lining the shelves and new displays created around the shop, but with a new theme that shapes everything we do. This winter, we're delving into the theme of resolve—navigating how we can savor the life we have and stand firm in who we were made to be. I love the way this theme lends itself to the winter season, reminding us that the end of the year is a time to reflect on the things we care deeply for and resolve to carry them through to next year. The visual display team did such an amazing job translating these concepts that we unpack in the winter magazineOpens in new tab into displays at the shop. As soon as you enter, it feels like you stepped into the dreamiest winter wonderland. I can't wait for you to step inside and experience the wonder for yourself.

A GRAND ENTRANCE: TALL PINE TREES

A group of tall pine trees greet you at the entrance to the shop. The logs are from Colorado, while the branches were all foraged around Waco, and each pine needle is made from floral wire with a fabric coating died in a dark green color. Behind the trees is a beautiful, hand-painted watercolor winter scene with laser cut letters that read, “Resolved to Seek Beauty in All Things,” which reflects the wording on the cover of our winter magazine.

LARGER-THAN-LIFE PINECONES

We couldn’t believe the size of these pinecones when we saw them in person for the first time. They certainly add dramatic visual interest above the kitchen island. Made from wood veneer, each pinecone petal is cut out, glued together and stained with weathered oak wood stain. The petals are then attached to the cone-shaped cardboard base to keep it all sturdy. The leaves are made from fabric, and a wire strung down the middle makes them bendable. Lastly, each leaf is dipped in wax for to give it a lifelike look and texture. The red berries are Styrofoam-painted balls attached to a wire stem.

ORNAMENTS AS MEMORIES

It seems like our ornament selection grows every year, so this season we carved out a larger space for this display. We wanted to display ornaments in the store as not just as decorations for the tree, but as memories you can cherish and unpack for years to come. The chalkboard gives a few ideas for collecting ornaments—like commemorating a family trip, a new hobby…and, of course, marking your trip to the Silos!

WREATHS + GARLAND

The shop is filled with holiday greenery, including wreaths, garland and stems. At this specific station (when you walk in you can find it on the far left wall), you can pair vases and stems together to find a combo you like most.

SNOW WALLS

It’s rare to get a snow day in Waco, so we made our own snow for the shop this year–made from a combination of glass glitter, rock salt, Epsom salt and faux snow on top of wax. You’ll also see snow below the pine trees, as well as on the wall above the registers. We love that there are faux pine sprig snowflakes laying in the show as if they’ve just fallen off the trees!

We hope you'll come visit our winter wonderland here in Waco soon! If you can't stop and see us this season, you can still shop our winter collection right here:
