Homemade Churros Recipe October 21, 2015 It’s hard to believe that it’s already late October, and the holiday season will be here before you know it. But, before we get ahead of ourselves, we wanted to share with you another great fall-season recipe! Imagine being wrapped in a blanket, enjoying the crisp fall weather with your family and friends, and enjoying a warm cup of hot chocolate – or maybe even the famous pumpkin spice latte. All you need is a warm snack to go with it, right? Well, we think we’ve come up with the perfect recipe to compliment your cocoa. Ingredients 2 cups all-purpose flour 2 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger 1/8 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg 1/8 teaspoon fine sea salt 3/4 cup pure pumpkin puree 10 tablespoons unsalted butter , cut into pieces 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract 4 large eggs, at room temperature Vegetable or canola oil, for frying 3/4 cup granulated sugar, for rolling Directions : 1. Mix together the flour, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, your cloves, ginger, nutmeg and salt in a large bowl. 2. Bring 1 1/2 cups water, the pumpkin puree, butter and vanilla to a boil in a saucepan, mixing constantly. 3. Pour the pumpkin mixture into the bowl with the flour mixture and stir with a wooden spoon until combined into a thick mixture. 4. Continue mixing, and add in the eggs one at a time, until well combined. The dough should be thick and smooth. 5. Place the dough into a pastry bag with a large star tip or into large zip lock bag and cut tip. 6. Heat 2 inches of canola oil in a high-sided saute pan. 7. Pipe the dough directly into the pan in 3-inch pieces, cutting off the pieces with a pair of scissors. Fry until golden and crispy, 4 to 5 minutes. 8. Stir together the sugar and remaining 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon in a medium shallow bowl. 9. Transfer the churros to a paper-towel-lined baking sheet or plate to drain the oil and immediately toss in the cinnamon-sugar mixture. That’s it! The finished product is a warm, sweet, aromatic treat for the whole family. We hope this recipe is a perfect compliment to your warm fall drinks! Enjoy!
